Antique, Finely Engraved Wooden Nautical Box – 19th Century
An interesting naval box, presumably dating from the second half of the 19th century, made of wood and featuring a distinctive and highly appealing decorative design.
The exterior surfaces feature a refined engraved geometric decoration, composed of thin parallel, straight, and wavy lines arranged to form rhombuses and triangular patterns. This original craftsmanship creates a striking effect of depth and chiaroscuro.
The box has an interior divided into several compartments, one of which has a lid, and retains metal elements and side handles.
Of particular interest are the two lower holes intended for fastening, a feature consistent with its use aboard a boat, where the box could be secured to prevent it from shifting during navigation.
It bears natural signs of age and use, which attest to its antiquity and enhance its character.
An unusual object with great decorative charm, interesting both for its possible nautical origin and for the distinctive woodworking.
