A Fine "Grand Tour" Walnut Centre Table withSpecimen Marble Top By the Lopes Brothers, Palermo, second half of the 19thcentury. Beautifully executed circular specimen marble top,intricately inlaid with a striking geometric and floral composition. The richlycoloured stones appear to include Nero Portoro, Verde Antico, Giallo Siena,Rosso Levanto and Sicilian red jasper, arranged in elaborate concentric bands. The original paper label beneath the top identifies thecelebrated Lopes Brothers' workshop, located at Corso Vittorio Emanuele 14 inPalermo. Renowned for their exceptional marble and mosaic work, the Lopesfamily was active throughout the 19th century and received several awards atexhibitions. Comparable marble tops by Salvatore and Filippo Lopeshave been sold at Sotheby's and Christie's in London. A refined example of 19th-century Sicilian craftsmanship,combining exquisite marble inlay with elegant sculptural woodwork.
