Paul Lecomte, born April 25, 1842, in Paris and died in the same city on March 21, 1920, was a French painter.
Paul Lecomte was a student of the painter Émile Lambinet (1815–1877). He is considered one of the last representatives of the Barbizon School.
He painted rural scenes from the Île-de-France region and landscapes, with a particular fondness for wooded ponds and colorful Provençal seascapes—many of which were painted in the vicinity of Marseille—often depicting trades that have since disappeared.
He signed his works “Paul Lecomte,” not to be confused with his nephew Paul Émile Lecomte.
Paul Lecomte’s works are included in the collections of the Louvre and the Petit Palais.
Our painting beautifully captures this artist’s work, depicting the rural life of a couple in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
