Large Vintage Tobacco Jar Carved From Burl Wood.
A countertop or living room tobacco jar from the 1950s, a perfect example of mid-century folk art. This one-of-a-kind piece stands out for its remarkable sculptural work, which plays on the contrasts of the material.
The front face retains the raw, rugged, and heavily textured appearance of a natural tree burl. The sides, back, and lid have been meticulously carved into geometric facets (using a wood chisel), typical of postwar rustic and modernist design.
The removable lid is topped by a pipe carved from a single piece of wood that serves as a handle, framed by two wooden support blocks. The interior is hollowed out in a circular shape from a single block of wood.
Ideal for collectors of smoking accessories (pipophilia) or as a curiosity piece and a raw/organic decorative item on a sideboard.
