The lady wears a sober, almost severe, black dress, yet lightened and embellished with refined lace and frills. A few, yet significant, jewels can be glimpsed among the lace, worn without ostentation. The lace veil on her head is adorned with small white flowers. Resting on her lap, held in her hands, the lady's spectacles and a lace-edged handkerchief rest. The painting is still on its original canvas. It is presented in an early 20th-century frame.
