Empire-lyra Mahogany Chest Of Drawers
Antique Lyre chest of drawers, a German-made piece from the late Napoleonic period, circa 1810. The design of this delicate mahogany chest of drawers appears to be reduced to the bare essentials, yet it is characterized by exquisite craftsmanship: the drawers are lined with mahogany on the inside. The elegance of this piece’s design and the quality of its craftsmanship suggest a courtly provenance and a date of creation around 1810. According to tradition, this chest of drawers comes from the former Mecklenburg estate (Duke Karl of Mecklenburg (Strelitz), likely from Hohenzieritz Castle).
