Private collection, France
This remarkable study sheet features several views of male feet and legs, drawn in red chalk and black chalk using a method characteristic of the Flemish academies of the first quarter of the 17th century. The energetic treatment of forms, the attention to anatomical articulation, and the liveliness of the line draw parallels between this work and the academic drawings of Jacob Jordaens from his formative years, around 1615–1620. The drawing can be compared to several sheets held at the British Museum, in Düsseldorf, and in Darmstadt.
