An Exceptional Pair Of Monumental Corner Pieces Made Of Wood Paneling From The Louis XV Period—18th Century

A rare and remarkable pair of monumental Louis XV-era corner cabinets from the 18th century, made of painted wood with antique polychrome decoration, displaying an elegant harmony of blue-gray, deep blue, and weathered white tones.

These imposing corner pieces, standing at an exceptional height of 308 cm, each consist of two stacked sections, accentuated by a molded and scalloped band.

Their strongly curved fronts open with doors featuring molded panels, forming the graceful curves characteristic of Louis XV furniture. The undulating crossbars, the interplay of moldings, and the prominent “gendarme’s hat” cornices contribute to the architectural elegance of these pieces.

The original polychrome finish, in shades of blue-gray and white, is accented by dark blue fillets that follow the contours of the panels. It features a particularly attractive patina, marked by wear, scuffs, and the passage of time, bearing witness to their long history.

The upper sections reveal interior shelving, some of which are adorned with small scroll-cut balustrades featuring turned balusters—particularly decorative and interesting details.

The interiors, painted in light tones, retain their antique character. The iron hardware and latching mechanisms complete this ensemble.

The backs, made of wide solid wood planks, feature a traditional construction consistent with 18th-century craftsmanship.

Due to their exceptional dimensions, their design, and the fact that they are preserved as a pair, these corner cabinets constitute a rare set, likely originally intended for a large residence.

They will naturally find their place in a home with character, a castle, or an interior combining antique furniture with contemporary decor.

Condition: well-preserved in its original state, with wear to the polychrome finish, minor imperfections, cracks, and signs of use. Some elements of the interior balustrades are damaged. The set is presented in its original condition. Sold as-is.

Period: Louis XV, 18th century.

Sold exclusively as a pair.

Given the oversized dimensions, delivery will be arranged only upon request, depending on your location. For international buyers, I am available to coordinate with your shipping carrier.

These pieces are difficult to photograph because they are too tall to fit in the store or the photo studio, so the photos were taken at the warehouse.
