"fishing," By Jacques-firmin Beauvarlet (1731–1797), After F. Boucher; Etching, Ca. 1775.
Artist: Jacques-firmin Beauvarlet (1731-1797)
This print, framed and mounted under glass, depicts people fishing. The scene is part of the idyllic (pastoral) movement that was very popular in 18th-century France, which idealized life in the heart of nature, far from the concerns of the court, while infusing it with a touch of elegance and courtly refinement. The oil painting by François Boucher, which served as the model for this engraving, was created around 1766.
