Eugene Vallin Pair Of Art Nouveau Chairs
A rare pair of chairs made of solid oak, molded and carved.
These chairs exemplify a design philosophy in which the structural framework becomes an integral part of the decorative language. The curved lines of the uprights, the sweeping legs, and the skillfully designed crossbars create a silhouette that is both architectural and organic—a hallmark of the Art Nouveau aesthetic.
The openwork backs, with their particularly expressive composition, combine a frame with enveloping curves and a central carved and molded motif. The interplay of solid and void, the fluidity of the lines, and the continuity of form between the various elements reveal a quest for balance between structural solidity and ornamental elegance.
The seats, upholstered in fawn-colored leather with a warm, amber patina, are accented by a row of decorative metal studs.
The seats and leather have been replaced; we have a set of four chairs of this model.
