A Late Empire Chandelier With Twelve Lights In Gilt Bronze And Cut Crystal
A large late Empire cut-crystal basket-form chandelier, richly mounted in finely chased gilt bronze, featuring twelve light arms.
The upper crown has palm-shaped finials with hanging cut-crystal triangular icicles. The central ring is decorated with shells flanked by palmettes and surmounted by an elaborate arrangement of fruit baskets and dolphins, alternating between the light arms. The arms feature scrolling branches terminating in circular candle nozzles, with the drip pans suspending cut-crystal icicles. The chandelier is completed by a gilt-bronze pinecone finial.
The bronze is finely chased and gilt, with alternating matte and burnished finishes that enhance the play of light and reflections.
