Exquisite Center Desk, in Mahogany and Mahogany Veneer with Gilded Bronze, from the Empire Period, circa 1810.
This ceremonial desk, with a rectangular top and visible on all sides, is topped with a lovely brown leather top, embossed with a fine gold pattern. It features two side pull-out drawers, also lined with leather. This desk opens with four drawers at the front. The entire piece is richly accented with moldings and adorned with delicate floral garlands, ribbons, a laurel wreath, and plant motifs. Its legs are embellished with large gilded bronze palmettes. Its four curved legs are topped with remarkable figures of winged chimeras with lion heads and end in elegant gilded bronze feet. Its side panels are also embellished with rich applied mascarons. Made of a very fine wood and featuring exceptionally rich ornamentation.
