Pair Of French Empire-style Armchairs, First Quarter Of The 19th Century
An elegant pair of Empire-period mahogany armchairs, richly adorned with gilded bronze. The armchairs feature a refined, semi-cylindrical shape, with straight, stately front legs, while the back legs are dynamically curved. The high armrests blend harmoniously into the backrests and are topped by powerful gilded bronze ram’s heads, which serve as the set’s primary decorative and symbolic element. The decoration is primarily concentrated on the front: the legs and horizontal crossbars are embellished with finely chiseled grotesques featuring the ram motif, as well as arabesques adorned with trumpet-shaped trophies, pearls, and shells. The gilded bronze contrasts elegantly with the warm depth of the polished mahogany. The upholstery is crafted from a classic fabric with a botanical pattern, harmoniously complementing the architectural precision of the form.
