Empire-style Desk – France, Second Half Of The 19th Century
Elegant Empire-style center desk, made in France in the second half of the 19th century from mahogany and mahogany burl, characterized by a refined, monumental design and rich decoration inspired by the ornamental repertoire of the Napoleonic Empire. The desk features a large rectangular top with a molded edge and a leather-covered surface, framed by a wooden band. The front features four drawers—two side drawers stacked one above the other and two central drawers—embellished with elegant grilles and gilded bronze handles featuring Neoclassical ornamental motifs.A particularly noteworthy feature is the center-to-edge craftsmanship: the desk is, in fact, finished and decorated on the back as well.
