Sculpture: The Lute Player
A piece hand-carved from a single block of mahogany using traditional woodcarving techniques.
The work draws inspiration from the local folklore of West Sumatra, and more specifically from the musicians of the Minangkabau people, whose melodies enliven village festivals. Through its slender lines and upward movement, the sculpture seeks to express the energy of the musician in the midst of a performance, capturing the connection between the body, the instrument, and the inner rhythm.
