Dora Hauth-Trachsler (1874–1957) studied at the Zurich School of Applied Arts from 1890 to 1894.
After devoting herself for a time to the labor movement, she founded a highly successful painting school in Zurich. To satisfy her passion for painting, the Swiss artist portrayed prominent figures among her fellow citizens while also creating still lifes and landscapes.
A talented and prolific artist, Dora Hauth also developed a passion for poster art and illustrating school textbooks for a time.
Deeply committed to promoting her fellow women artists, she became vice president of the Zurich chapter of the Swiss Society of Women Painters and Sculptors. 
Our painting depicts Anna Lorenz-Lüscher (1883–1969), wife of Jacob Lorenz, a Swiss sociologist and economist. The artist employs a highly expressionistic technique and color palette, masterfully capturing her subject’s character and passion.
