A Provençal Painting By Louis-edouard Cauvin, 1874
Artist: Louis Edouard Cauvin
A Provençal work by Louis Édouard Isidore Cauvin (often listed as Édouard Louis Cauvin), born in Toulon in 1816 and died in 1900. A French painter born and died in Toulon, he was deeply attached to the Var region and the landscapes of the Mediterranean coast (its surroundings, its ports, its fishing scenes, and Provençal life). He served as a drawing instructor at the Toulon School of Navigation (succeeding Bernard Sénéquier). In recognition of his artistic and teaching career, he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in February 1875—precisely at the time these watercoulors were created. His works are housed in several museums, such as the Toulon Art Museum and the Naval Museum.
