The Virgin Mary is depicted standing, her arms outstretched in a welcoming gesture, trampling and crushing beneath her foot the serpent coiled around a globe, a symbol of the triumph of good over original sin and the devil.
The piece is superb, the porcelain is of the highest quality, richly adorned with fine gold gilding; she displays her beautiful, rosy-cheeked face with features very prettily painted in polychrome, and the skin tone of her feet and “hands” is painted in a delicate flesh tone.
Please note that one hand is missing; however, having this part restored would not be a complicated task for a professional—especially since the quality of the piece well deserves this minor restoration, even if it is not strictly necessary.
