Vallauris Trompe-l'œil, Majolica, Or Barbotine Plate, Featuring Mussels And A Starfish, Circa 1950

Artist: Atelier De Vallauris, Vers 1950.
A beautiful, highly decorative ceramic wall plate, known as “barbotine de Vallauris,” circa 1950.
Diameter: 23.5 cm
An iconic piece of French Riviera craftsmanship (Côte d’Azur), characterized by its colorful, trompe-l’œil relief decoration, but distinguished here by a sand-colored enamel background.
The composition features meticulously modeled marine elements: a handful of mussels, a bright yellow half-lemon, a bright red starfish, and green seaweed.
This type of artwork, which was very popular in the postwar era, is linked to the general public’s discovery of the Côte d’Azur, as it was frequented by prominent figures from the arts, film, and business during that period.
* Good condition * (just a couple of small scuffs around the edge; see the last photo for details).
