Antique Painting Virgin Mary With Jesus Child XVII Century Original
Oil on canvas. 17th-century Emilian school.
A traditional depiction of the Holy Family, shown in the foreground in half-length portraits, with the infant Jesus—while nursing at his mother’s breast—turning his gaze back toward the viewer, suggesting that he is already looking toward his future; Mary and Joseph gaze tenderly at the Child, with the foster father in the background and in shadow, so as not to detract from the centrality of the other two figures.
Having previously undergone restoration and relining, the painting is in good condition and is presented in a gilded frame from the late 19th century.
