Antique Painting Card Players Oil On Canvas Italy XVIII Century Original
Oil on canvas.
Inside a tavern, a few patrons are playing cards: the man seated on the left is cheating, hiding a card in the collar of his worn jacket, under the amused gaze of the innkeeper who is approaching.
The figures appear grotesque, almost caricatured; the colors are predominantly earth tones, emphasizing the working-class setting.
Restored and re-stretched (with a label from the restorer dated 1952 on the back), the painting is presented in an antique frame.
