Pair Of Directoire-style Gilt-bronze Palm-motif Candlesticks, Late 18th Century
Pair of gilded bronze candlesticks—torches—from the Directoire period, late 18th century. The base, shaped like a Medici urn, is adorned with a frieze of palm leaves. The decagonal shaft rests on a round, molded base, chiseled with a radiating design that echoes the vase, as well as a delicate and elegant beaded frieze.
These candlesticks are in good overall condition, in their original patina, and will require cleaning. These candlesticks form a very elegant decorative set, which is reminiscent of the so-called “quiver” models created by the famous bronze artist Claude Galle for the grand imperial residences of the era.
Please note: the original gilding is slightly worn in places; there are a few minor chips and dents, as well as signs of age—see photos.
