R Ginori / Gio Ponti, Art Deco Dinner Service, 20th Century

An elegant Art Deco-style tableware set consisting of three pieces made of fine earthenware by the renowned Italian manufacturer Richard Ginori, including a covered soup tureen, a large salad bowl, and a sugar bowl or creamer with a lid and saucer.
The set features a sleek cream-and-white design adorned with a geometric motif depicting a stylized burgundy-colored arrow, and is cataloged under the name “freccia.”

The marks on the reverse allow this set to be dated to 1932–1933, a pivotal period marking the end of the artistic direction of the great modernist designer and architect Gio Ponti.

In 1923, the Richard Ginori factory—founded in Milan in 1735—entrusted its artistic direction to the young architect Gio Ponti.
For 10 years, he revolutionized Italian ceramics by combining clean lines with avant-garde geometric and graphic motifs. This marked the birth of Italian Art Deco industrial design.
