"sulky Little Girl" By Ernest Rouart
Artist: Ernest Rouart
An etching depicting the face of a pouting little girl, whose physical features are reminiscent of Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The print, from a very limited edition, is numbered 15/20 in the lower left corner, and the print is signed in pencil in the lower right corner. The etching measures 10.8 x 6.8 cm at the edge of the plate. The print is on thick Canson-type paper. Unfortunately, it has a few visible spots that are evident in the photographs.
Ernest Rouart (Paris 1874 – id. 1942) was a French painter, watercolorist, pastel artist, engraver, and collector. He was one of the four sons of Henri Rouart and the brother of Eugène Rouart, whom he portrayed around 1900. He married Julie Manet, the daughter of Berthe Morisot and Eugène Manet. Edgar Degas was his teacher of drawing, painting, and likely printmaking, and also served as the matchmaker for his marriage to Julie Manet.
