Boccaccio's Dream — Paris, Widow Of Pierre Boüillerot, 1698
Boccaccio’s Dream. Translated from Italian into French. 1698. Paris, published by the widow of Pierre Boüillerot, in front of the Saint-Michel Bridge, at the Bon Protecteur. In-12. First edition of the French translation attributed to Sieur de Prémont, a free adaptation of *Corbaccio*, also known as *The Labyrinth of Love*. In this satirical tale, a man disappointed in love is visited in a dream by the deceased husband of the woman he loves. This version reflects the adaptation of Boccaccio’s work to the literary tastes and conventions of the late reign of Louis XIV (omission of passages deemed contrary to decency, addition of modernized verses).
