A Small Tuscan Village In A 19th-century Gilded Frame

Title: Tuscan “paesina” stone in a 19th-century gilded frame
Period: First half of the 20th century; 19th-century frame.
Description:
Decoration made from a slab of Tuscan “paesina” stone, characterized by striking natural veining and inclusions that evoke a landscape featuring the outlines of buildings, towers, and ruins.
The stone, measuring 24 × 6 cm, was presumably carved and mounted in the first half of the 20th century; it is set within a composition with a blue background, affixed to a hardboard panel.
The piece is framed by a 19th-century wooden frame gilded with pure gold, measuring 44 × 26 cm, featuring simple and elegant molding with a patina of age.
An interesting decorative object that highlights the unique figurative qualities of “pietra paesina,” a stone prized since the Renaissance for its ability to evoke landscapes without the use of paint.
Materials: “Pietra paesina,” wood gilded with fine gold, blue background, and hardboard panel.
Date: Stone and mounting presumably from the first half of the 20th century; 19th-century frame.
Dimensions:
- Frame: 44 × 26 cm- Pietra paesina: 24 × 6 cm
