Venetian Paneled Trumeau
An important 18th-century Venetian trumeau cabinet, paneled in walnut and burl, with a curved front and sides.
The piece consists of a lower section with a drop-down panel and drawers, and an upper section with engraved mirrors. The piece features a warm amber-brown hue, with particularly prominent grain and patterns on the wood surface, enhanced by the richly detailed front panels and contoured profiles.
The upper section features a two-door display cabinet, surmounted by a molded cornice and embellished with an elaborate carved and gilded crown featuring ornamental and floral motifs. The doors feature decorated glass panels with borders, festoons, and ornamental figures. The mirrors are mounted on two gilded frames.
The central section consists of a drop-down panel with a sloped, contoured front, characterized by a beautiful grain pattern and a curvilinear line that lends movement to the composition. The drop-down panel is surmounted by a molded connecting top and, when opened, conceals a writing compartment.
The lower section features a chest of drawers with three rows of drawers, arranged on a curved and shaped front panel, with a rounded profile in the central portion. The drawers are fitted with period bronze handles and pull-tabs. The side rails of both the upper and lower sections feature carved and gilded friezes.
