Very good condition.
Dimensions without frame : 41 x 33 cm.
Dimensions with frame : 56 x 48 cm.
Jacques Petit entered the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in 1945. There, he studied in the mural painting department under masters such as Marcel Gromaire and Maurice Brianchon, graduating in 1949. He subsequently joined Gromaire's studio for two years.
He began participating in group exhibitions in 1954 and is counted among the painters of the "Second School of Paris." With a style close to Post-Impressionism, he devoted his life to painting, exhibiting his work in France (Grenoble, Paris, Lyon, Bagnols-sur-Cèze, Saint-Claude) as well as in Chicago, Osaka, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Essen, Geneva, and Lausanne. The Drouet Gallery in Paris exhibited his work continuously between 1959 and 1979.
His painting was initially influenced by Gromaire's work, specifically through a muted, earthy palette of tones mixed with gray or brown, and the geometric lines defining his landscapes and figures. Later, he developed greater spontaneity and freshness, creating brighter, more vibrant interpretations of subjects drawn from nature.
