Painting By Alfred Thésonnier (1898–1973) Daffodils

Artist: Alfred Thésonnier
A vibrant painting of daffodils from the 1930s
To introduce this artist, I’ll quote the opening lines of the introduction to the Murol Museum catalog, written by Philippe Auserve for the 2016 exhibition dedicated to the painter:
In 1953, Alfed Thésonnier was named a Knight of the Legion of Honor in the Fine Arts category (the award was reportedly presented to him by the President of the Republic himself, Vincent Auriol at the time). This distinction recognized a career marked by notable successes: from his very first participation in the Salon des Artistes Français—in 1921, when he was twenty-three years old—he was awarded an Honorable Mention and received the Prix de la Savoie; followed by the Bronze Medal in 1927, the Silver Medal in 1935, and the Gold Medal in 1948, accompanied by the title “Hors concours.” And this success was undoubtedly due to his great talent and tenacious work.
