Antique Victorian 9ct Rose Yellow Gold Fancy Clover Link Albert Fob Chain 20g
Antique 9K Yellow and Rose Gold Fancy Link Albert Watch Chain with T-Bar
A handsome antique Albert watch chain, crafted in contrasting 9-karat yellow and rose gold and featuring an unusual decorative fancy-link design.
The chain measures approximately 12 inches (30.5 cm) in length and has a substantial total gross weight of approximately 20.4 grams.
Rather than the conventional curb-link construction associated with many Albert chains, this example is composed of individual decorative links shaped as three-lobed clovers or scalloped discs. Alternating tones of yellow and rose gold create an attractive two-tone appearance and give the chain considerable character.
The chain incorporates a traditional polished gold T-bar measuring approximately 3.5 cm across, designed originally to pass through the buttonhole of a gentleman’s waistcoat. A clearly struck “9CT” fineness hallmark is located within a rectangular cartouche towards the outer end of the T-bar.
At the opposite end, the chain terminates in a traditional swivelling dog-clip clasp, attached by a circular jump ring and originally intended for securing a pocket watch or fob.
Although originally created as a gentleman’s watch chain, antique Albert chains of this type are increasingly worn today as collectible pieces of jewellery and can also be adapted or styled with pendants and charms.
A particularly appealing example distinguished by its unusual clover-form links, contrasting yellow and rose gold construction and substantial 20.4-gram weight.
