Rare Antique 1918 15ct Gold Compass Pendant Fob A.t.s Birmingham 5.8g
Antique 1918 15ct Gold Pocket Compass Pendant Fob – Birmingham – A.T.S – 5.8g
A fine antique pocket compass charm crafted in 15ct yellow gold, fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1918.
The circular watch-fob style case has a glass front enclosing a functional compass with an attractive blue-tempered steel directional needle mounted on a central pivot. The pale compass face is surrounded by a matte gold chapter ring with black directional markings for North, South, East, West and the intermediate points.
The compass is fitted with a fixed gold suspension loop and additional split ring, allowing it to be worn as a pendant, charm or traditional watch-chain fob.
The outer edge carries British hallmarks including the maker’s mark A.T.S, the .625 fineness mark for 15ct gold, the Birmingham anchor assay mark and the date letter “t” for 1918.
The A.T.S maker’s mark found on Birmingham-hallmarked pieces of this type is associated with a Midlands silversmith or case maker, possibly A. T. Storrie or a similarly registered maker. Makers working in Birmingham during the late Victorian, Edwardian and early 20th-century periods frequently produced small gold and silver cases, watch fobs and compass pendants of this form.
