Antique Islamic Solid 84 Silver Tea Coffee Service Hand Chased Repousse 1.6kg

Antique 84 Standard Silver 4 Piece Tea Coffee Service Hand Chased 1.6kg

Description:

A highly decorative antique four-piece tea and coffee service crafted in 84 standard silver, comprising a tall coffee/hot-water pot, teapot, milk or cream jug and double-handled covered sugar bowl.

All four pieces are extensively decorated by hand with exceptionally detailed chased, engraved and repoussé work. The surfaces feature dense floral and foliate ornament surrounding large pictorial cartouches depicting figures in traditional dress, architectural scenes, trees, birds, deer and other animals.

The workmanship is particularly fine, with virtually the entire surface of each piece covered in intricate hand-tooled decoration.

The coffee and teapot have elegant curved spouts, fitted domed lids with decorative finials and cast scrolling handles with insulating sections. The covered sugar bowl has matching twin handles and follows the same decorative pattern throughout.

The undersides carry a series of original stamped marks, including an “84” silver standard mark together with script and workshop/maker’s punches. We have not conclusively identified the individual maker and therefore make no specific maker attribution.

Combined weight: approximately 1.6 kg

Measurements:

Coffee / hot-water pot: approx. 19 × 18 cm including handle and spout

Teapot: approx. 14 × 19 cm including handle and spout

Milk / cream jug: approx. 15 × 13 cm including handle and spout

Sugar bowl: approx. 13 × 16 cm including handles

A substantial and extremely decorative hand-worked silver service with impressive weight and craftsmanship.

Condition:

Very good antique condition with age-related surface wear consistent with use. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.

I would use “84 Standard Silver” rather than calling it sterling, because 84 standard is approximately 875/1000 silver, whereas sterling is 925/1000.
