Prefabricated Bathroom Stall, Charlotte Perriand, Les Arcs 1800, Circa 1975
Artist: Charlotte Perriand
Prefabricated bathroom unit designed by Charlotte Perriand for the Les Belles Challes residence in Les Arcs 1800, built in 1975.
Consisting of two molded polyester shells assembled in a workshop, this bathroom unit integrates a bathtub, sink, toilet, lighting, and storage into a fully equipped, single-piece unit. Delivered ready for installation by crane directly on the construction site, it exemplifies Charlotte Perriand’s research into prefabrication applied to collective housing and the streamlining of construction in mountain regions.
Developed in collaboration with the company Résine Armée, this unit is one of the most innovative projects undertaken for Les Arcs. Conceived as a true architectural element, it contributes to the modernity of the Les Arcs 1800 development, where furnishings, architecture, and amenities are designed as a cohesive whole.
Provenance: Les Belles Challes Residence, Les Arcs 1800, French Alps.
Bibliography: Charlotte Perriand, L’Œuvre Complète, Vol. 4: 1968–1999, Jacques Barsac, Éditions Norma, pp. 204–207.
