Large Black Forest Wood Carving Depicting A Chamois And A Ibex In The Alps, 19th Century
Large wooden sculpture from the Black Forest* depicting a beautiful Alpine chamois or ibex standing on a pile of rocks and mountain vegetation, gazing upward with pride, its beautiful, ringed horns curving backward. Dated to the 19th century.
This sculpture is in good overall condition and of superb quality. Its imposing size makes it highly decorative. A fine example of this high-end folk art from the Brienz region of Switzerland, showcasing the region’s wildlife.
Please note: a few imperfections (a piece of one horn needs to be reattached), a damaged and restored ear, cracks in the wood (notably on the platform), and signs of age—please examine the photos carefully.

The tradition of woodworking dates back many generations in this region; the locals continue the practice of wood carving on house facades, furniture, and everyday objects.
