Sosaku-hanga
Nishiki-e
Ca. 1970
Born in Kyoto in 1948, he studied and graduated from the Kyoto Prefectural School’s Crafts and Ceramics Department.
He began his career as an engraver by exploring the technique of copperplate engraving before turning to woodblock printing, or mokuhanga.
His work spans the 1970s and 1980s, during which he distinguished himself with a unique aesthetic in which his silhouettes of women—often Bijin—barely sketched and graceful, express a gentle melancholy.
