Our painting depicts a lovely, poetic scene of a wooded countryside: a dovecote surrounded by a riverside hamlet bustling with activity, featuring a farmwoman—just as the artist loved to paint in the purest Barbizon tradition.
The painting dates from the 19th century, circa 1880–1900, and was masterfully executed by our artist with the fine, precise touch for which he is known.
It is highlighted by a beautiful 19th-century key-frame with a so-called “à la Bérain” design in wood and gilded stucco.
Signed with his pseudonym “L. Dupuy” in the lower left corner.
Dimensions: Stretcher: 41 cm x 33 cm (6 F format) With frame: 55 cm x 47 cm
In very good condition. Re-stretched. It has been cleaned and is therefore ready to hang.

Eugène Galien-Laloue, a Belle Époque painter famous for his gouache views of Paris, produced numerous works under various pseudonyms to circumvent the exclusivity contracts to which he was bound. The painter is listed in the “Bénézit” as well as in Gérald Shurr and Pierre Cabanne’s dictionary *Petits Maîtres de la peinture*, André Roussard’s *Dictionnaire des peintres à Montmartre*, Noé Willer’s *Catalogue raisonné*, and Eugène Galien - Laloue, *The Triumph of Paris*. His works are found in numerous public collections both in France and abroad, notably in the museums of Louviers, Mulhouse, and La Rochelle...
