Born on December 27, 1839, in La Grande Catherine, a hamlet near Claudon in the Vosges Forest, Legras rose through the ranks to become a world-renowned master glassmaker. He is one of the four master glassmakers credited with founding the Art Nouveau movement, alongside Émile Gallé, the Daum brothers, and René Lalique.
