The image is a romantic allegory of Time watching a young girl as autumn leaves fly from her hand; A poignant image explained by the caption: "The passing wind carries away youth." This drawing was intended to be placed in the crescent-shaped space of a proposed "Pavilion of Man" for the 1900 Paris Universal Exposition.
