- Large Aquatint By Louis Legrand - Around 1900 -
Artist: Louis Auguste Mathieu Legrand
- Louis Auguste Mathieu Legrand: Dijon 1863 - Livry Gatgan 1951 - - He learned engraving at a young age, in the company of Rops, aquatint was his favorite - - contemporary of Lautrec (1864) perhaps an admirer of Degas.....the dancers, the cabarets, the caricature at the turn of the century.....imprisoned for a few months for obscenity.....Legrand found his beautiful path, orders and other art publishers were not mistaken - - also the poster is not far away......imagining an advertising text for this piece is tempting.... - referenced nowhere, this large aquatint measures 29.8 x 43.5 for the plate and 32.5 x 47.5 for the sheet - - good general condition, but note a slight soiling in the upper right corner, 2 tiny holes (pins..?) on each side end and a warping in the same corner at the top - - signed in the plate, undated, we estimate it to be late 19th / early 20th century -
