WHEEL-LOCK PISTOL, SIGNED J.P. CLETT

Steel, iron, wood
Total length : 60.5; Barrel length: 40 cm
Caliber: 9 mm
Three-chambered barrel, octagonal, then semi-spherical with eight facets on top and round. The initial “P” is engraved on the trigger guard. Smooth breech tail.
Wheel-lock lockplate, with a flat body and beveled at the rear; pan with a movable lid; outer wheel held by a clamp adorned with foliage; hammock with a sliding lower jaw and a square-headed clamping screw; signed on the back J.P. CLETT
Fruitwood stock, conforming to the circular shape of the lock plate, with a long stock featuring a blackened butt plate. Iron fittings with a guard bridge in a broken line pattern; domed pommel cap encircled by iron. Tubular ramrod holder and small reinforcing collar at the end of the stock. Wooden ramrod with a head and steel tip.
The wood is marked with Roman numerals: XXVII (the Army Museum’s is XXVIII)
In very good condition.

Formerly in the collection of H.L. VISSER; sold at SOTHEBY’S in 1990.
This pistol has been the subject of a study by the Army Museum; the museum owns a similar specimen (Inventory No. 6593-9 I). This study will be provided to the purchaser.
