Mother With Child Giuseppe Migneco Contemporary Painting XX Century Framed

Giuseppe Migneco, originally from Messina but who moved to Milan at a young age, was one of the leading figures—along with Aligi Sassu, Renato Birolli, Bruno Cassinari, and Renato Guttuso—of the Corrente group, which was open to European artistic avant-gardes. Advocating for socially engaged painting, he examined reality with a critical, objective, and historical eye. His figures, with their hard, angular faces—marked by hard labor and rendered in vivid, strong tones—evoke his native Sicily with its violent and sharp features, as well as the social realism of Mexican muralists.
This work features his characteristic figures (who could belong to either Sicily or Mexico!) engaged in a very prosaic and realistic activity of everyday working-class life: a mother combing and cleaning her son’s head, which is likely infested with parasites!
