Ceremonial Cabinet In Blackened Pear Wood, Napoleon III Period – Second Half Of The 19th Century
This stately piece of furniture from the Napoleon III period, crafted from blackened pear wood, stands out for its dramatic design and the delicacy of its ornamentation. The upper section rises elegantly through an arch that houses a large central mirror, supported by slender freestanding columns and crowned by a delicately molded cornice. Below, the upper section is enlivened by an open mirrored niche, punctuated by small Neo-Renaissance-style arcades that create a subtle sense of depth. The lower section forms a sideboard featuring a drawer with its own key and a solid door that opens to reveal functional storage space equipped with two interior shelves. This central panel is magnificently highlighted by an octagonal marquetry medallion depicting Diana the Huntress, framed by rich foliage, leafy arabesques, and geometric motifs that contrast superbly with the depth of the blackened wood.
A perfect blend of Second Empire opulence and architectural precision, this exceptional piece stands out as an ideal centerpiece to enhance a collector’s interior.
