Early 18th-century Regency Writing Desk
Early 18th-century Regency-style writing desk. Made of carved and molded oak, it rests on four arched legs. The legs are adorned with a large carved acanthus leaf at the top, are molded along the edges, and end in a spiral scroll. The front is curved and features two molded drawers fitted with beautiful bronze handles. These drawers are constructed in the traditional manner with dovetail joints. The crossbars are scroll-cut on all four sides. The desk is topped with a wooden tabletop painted to imitate “Rouge de France” marble, with a corbin-beak molding. The piece is painted in a bluish-gray tone with blue highlights. Given its proportions, this table could potentially be used as a console table.
