Hookah, Leather, Southern Tunisia
A rare glass piece entirely covered in leather and decorated with seashells, belonging to the chief of a nomadic tribe in the southern Tunisian Sahara. In good condition.
The hookah, or shisha, is a water pipe used for smoking tobacco. The tobacco can be used in the form of tabamel, a mixture containing molasses and added flavorings, which is burned with charcoal.
