Wassily B3 Armchair By Marcel Breuer, By Gavina 1960.
An iconic armchair designed in 1925 by Marcel Breuer of the Bauhaus. He named the chair “Wassily” (with a W) after his friend Wassily Kandinsky, who in 1925 received one of the first models Breuer made for him.
In 1955, Marcel Breuer granted exclusive rights to produce and distribute an exact replica of this model to the major Italian manufacturer “Dino Gavina” in Bologna
until 1968.
After Gavina, the manufacturer “Knoll” took over all production and distribution rights.
This armchair has the upper portion of the Gavina label—still legible—affixed to the rear tube (see photo).
This chair’s origin and provenance have been formally traced since its acquisition prior to 1968.
The chair features thick cognac-colored leather and original chrome-plated steel tubing.
The leather and tubular frame are in good condition; everything is authentic and original.
Note: One cover screw is missing and needs to be replaced.
