Pierre Forest was a French painter born November 21, 1881, in Nice and died on December 17, 1971, in Paris.
A painter of landscapes, seascapes, still lifes, and flowers, and a pastel artist specializing in Parisian skies.
The nephew of the Lyon-based engraver Forest-Fleury, he exhibited atnumerous galleries from 1923 to 1929.
From 1931 to 1943, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris, of which he was a member.
Two periods in his career.
The painter of Nice’s flowers and the landscapes of the Côte d’Azur,painted with a palette knife in a “Barbizon-en-Provence” style, with thickpaint layers, and in an Orientalist style.
The painter of Parisian skies. Inspired by the landscapesof Île-de-France, he softened his vivid colors and began touse pastels, in which he became a specialist.
He then imbued his works with a melancholic tone.
The painting is signed in the lower left corner.
