Solid Silver Devotional Font Depicting The Virgin And Child—neo-gothic Style, 19th Century
Wall-mounted holy water font in solid silver hallmarked with the Minerva mark, featuring an architectural design in the Neo-Gothic style.
The openwork plaque features, at its center, the Virgin and Child in relief, standing beneath a radiant composition, framed by motifs evoking Gothic architecture: small columns, lancet arches, arcades, and foliage scrolls. The upper portion is adorned with a floral design and openwork volutes.
The deeply embossed holy water font is decorated with lanceolate leaves, small flowers, and beaded motifs, in a rather elaborate design despite the object’s small size.
French work from the second half of the 19th century, likely around 1870–1900, a period when the Neo-Gothic style was flourishing in religious silverwork.
