Hector Michaut, Screen With Rowan Trees, Art Nouveau
Three-panel carved and moulded walnut screen, created circa 1905 by Hector Michaut. Characteristic of the cabinetmaker's naturalistic repertoire, it features an elegant decoration of rowan branches, with finely carved leaves and berries. The harmonious proportions, finely modelled relief and exceptional quality of craftsmanship reflect the skill of this artist, who belonged to the circle of the École de Nancy. The panels are upholstered with an orange fabric decorated with butterflies among foliage, most likely a later replacement.
