Profile Of The Duke Of Luynes, 18th Century, Silver Frame, General Of The Dragoons, Historical Souvenir
An old portrait carved in bas-relief depicting Louis-Joseph-Charles-Amable d’Albert de Luynes (1748–1807), 6th Duke of Luynes, depicted in profile facing right, in uniform and wearing his spectacular helmet as colonel general of the Dragoons.
Louis-Joseph-Charles-Amable d’Albert de Luynes was a brigadier of the Dragoons in 1771, a field marshal in 1781, and then Colonel General of the Dragoons from 1783 to 1790. He was also elected representative of the nobility of Touraine to the Estates-General of 1789 and joined the Third Estate on June 25 of that same year.
The finely carved portrait measures approximately 3.2 cm in height.
It is set in the center of a large oval frame made of repoussé and chased silver, decorated with acanthus leaves, scrollwork, flowers, and shells in the Rococo style.
The entire piece measures approximately 14 cm in height.
The portrait dates from the late 18th century, around 1783–1790, a period during which the Duke of Luynes held the rank of Colonel General of the Dragoons. The frame is later, likely from the 19th century.
