Bordeaux-style Chest Of Drawers Made Of Solid Mahogany, Crafted In Bordeaux In The 18th Century. "tombeau" Chest Of Drawers.
Artist: Bordeaux
Bordeaux-style chest of drawers, "tombeau" shape, 18th-century craftsmanship. Made of mahogany and Cuban mahogany, with oak trim; the lock plates and "daisy-shaped" knobs are made of bronze. It features a “tampon” varnish finish. The mahogany top is made from a single plank (slight sun damage, slight cracks in the wood). The chest of drawers, carved on three sides, has beautiful curves; the four legs are carved and end in volutes.
The back panels are made of solid oak. This piece features four drawers on the front; the joints are doweled.
The chest of drawers was restored in the 1990s; it was given a buffed varnish finish, and the rear panels and lower panels on both sides were replaced. The lock holes and non-original handles—their design, patina, and carving—are of very high quality. The movement is smooth, and the lower crossbars feature very fine carving.
